sivoais: is that what you want to build, basically? |
00:51 |
|
pdurbin |
as we discussed at http://irclog.greptilian.com/sourcefu/2013-09-22 |

ha, reminds me of when a colleage described an idea and i said "so basically you want to build Xanadu?" |

btw, pdurbin, thx to your encouragement i'm now vagranting it up |

not all the time, but more the never that i used to |

I know what Xanadu is |
00:56 |
|
pdurbin |
:) |

reminds me of my niece telling me, "I know your cat's name!" |
00:57 |
|
pdurbin |
I think I spun up 3 different Vagrant VMs today |
00:57 |
|
semiosis |
i know you know what Xanadu is, but i also know if someone says a proper noun in you channel you ask them to give a link :D |
00:57 |
|
pdurbin |
or i pull one of these: |

oh, I made a new bot last night: http://irclog.greptilian.com/javaee/2013-10-02 |
01:00 |
|
semiosis |
you're donating a bot for the public good! |
01:00 |
|
semiosis |
huzzah! |
01:00 |
|
semiosis |
i've been active in #gitlab lately and there's no bot there... it just feels so lonely |
01:01 |
|
semiosis |
a project's channel having a bot is like a house having a well tended lawn |
01:01 |
|
sivoais |
pdurbin: hehe, I'm actually prototyping by using their SQLite DB |
01:03 |
|
semiosis |
pdurbin: by popular demand, i added three features to logstashbot (they may be appreciated in #javaee too)... 1. url title snarfing, 2. url shortening, 3. ticket id lookup/linking in the issue tracker |
01:03 |
|
semiosis |
and after leading by example with factoids now people are adding, invoking, and updating themselves |
01:05 |
|
semiosis |
ooh zotero looks neat. i've been using pocket a lot lately (since i fell out of love with instapaper) -- this look similar |
01:05 |
|
semiosis |
google getpocket |
01:05 |
|
crimsonfubot |
http://getpocket.com/ |
01:06 |
|
pdurbin |
hmm, javaeebot doesn't respond to @ but I bet it still responds to "google" |
01:06 |
|
pdurbin |
lucky javaee |
01:06 |
|
semiosis |
whoa, check these out! http://www.zotero.org/blog/zotero-apps-go-mobile/ |
01:07 |
|
semiosis |
oh yeah thats another thing i did for logstashbot... people have a bad habit of saying @ in irc like its twitter... |
01:07 |
|
pdurbin |
sivoais: wat? you know about zotero? does it do everything you want? |
01:07 |
|
semiosis |
@pdurbin: this is what i'm talking about |
01:07 |
|
crimsonfubot |
semiosis: Error: "pdurbin:" is not a valid command. |
01:07 |
|
semiosis |
which makes the bot unhappy |
01:07 |
|
pdurbin |
semiosis: oh, I know, I know |
01:07 |
|
semiosis |
so i switched the trigger key to backtick - ` |
01:07 |
|
semiosis |
and that is a winner |
01:07 |
|
pdurbin |
i should probably do the same for crimsonfubot :/ |
01:07 |
|
pdurbin |
I see ~ and ! used as well |
01:08 |
|
semiosis |
yes. you can also disable the error message, but that's not a real solution imo |
01:09 |
|
semiosis |
re ~ and !, i didnt want a shifted char |
01:09 |
|
semiosis |
backtick fit the bill |
01:09 |
|
pdurbin |
I was wrong... javaeebot doesn't respond to "google" http://irclog.greptilian.com/javaee/2013-10-04#i_27407 |

pdurbin: I'll get back to you later. :-) Sitting in a meeting. |
01:11 |
|
semiosis |
worked |
01:12 |
|
pdurbin |
semiosis: you can run all my bots if you want |
01:12 |
|
semiosis |
but then you'd never learn to fish |
01:12 |
|
pdurbin |
except my ilbot (philbot, my log bot). I like owning the data |
01:13 |
|
semiosis |
i noticed that. and i saw what you did there, ph + ilbot = philbot -- i lol'ed |
01:13 |
|
pdurbin |
sivoais: sure you are. my wife used to use endnote. now she's trying zotero and seems to like it. at work people use bibtex |
01:13 |
|
semiosis |
wow vagrant up on the gitlab dev box is taking for.... evar.... |
01:15 |
|
pdurbin |
semiosis: as you know (and to your horror), I've been using some random centos base box on dropbox. now I realize puppet labs has posted some so I should probably switch |
01:16 |
|
semiosis |
pdurbin: http://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/vagrant/ and apt-get on with your life ;) |
01:16 |
|
pdurbin |
prolly should |
01:17 |
|
semiosis |
yeah i'm an ubuntunut and all, but they really have been doing an amazing job with their cloud images |
01:18 |
|
pdurbin |
cool |
01:18 |
|

I looked at this again the other day and cried a little: 0006365: Publish official Vagrant base boxes - CentOS Bug Tracker - http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=6365 |
01:19 |
|
pdurbin |
but hey, at least puppet labs is publishing them now... not that I've tried them yet |
01:19 |
|
semiosis |
i dont want kbsingh's job |
01:19 |
|
semiosis |
but glad he does what he does |
01:20 |
|
pdurbin |
yeah |
01:20 |
|
semiosis |
used to use centos a ton and have huge respect for the project |
01:20 |
|
pdurbin |
and red hat is cool with it |

|
sivoais |
hehe, my meeting finally ended, but it's kind of late here :-) |
05:57 |

Yeah, I'm currently using a mixture of Zotero and Mendeley. My project isn't exactly citation manager although interfacing with those will be important |
06:00 |
|
sivoais |
I want be able to manipulate and organise documents in a new way, but I'm still experimenting with ideas. It's a bit slow to get off the ground because my actual research has priority. :-P |

sivoais: fair enough |
