14:00 pdurbin dotplus_: I keep thinking about your 'what would be helpful would be every community that I participate in to move the slider on the spectrum of sync vs. async further in the direction of "async with occasional synchronous as necessary"' at http://irclog.greptilian.com/openknot/2017-04-13#i_204312
14:01 pdurbin and 'I most prefer "async with occasional synchronous as necessary" for any communication that is for getting something done. explanatory wrangling, brainstorming, cultural-fu, fun and so on are usually best the other way around IMO: "synchronous summarized to something easily archived such as mail or docs"'
14:02 pdurbin (a little higher up)
14:02 pdurbin I think you're spot on. I've been trying to change my ways. :)
16:44 codex pdurbin: catching up - perl runs on windows. In fact, you can compile (using pp) to native .exe's
16:44 codex that said - the point of "python" being more popular is valid. Sadly, perl seems to be "dying" along with the last set of people who learned it -- us
16:45 codex I still prefer it for all quick scripts/tasks where the goal is to accomplish something rather than long term maintenance.

17:02 pdurbin_m codex: I'm not sure I'd say Perl is my go-to language for scripting anymore. I usually start with Bash.
17:11 pdurbin_m I mostly work in static languages these days.
18:34 dotplus pdurbin: awesome, glad it was helpful.
18:34 * dotplus hasn't anything more useful to contribute
18:36 dotplus got back from nh.us late last night after a week of meeting the people at the new job, so I'm kinda a vegetable now. Too much talking and drinking from the firehose.
18:57 pdurbin dotplus: congrats on the new job
18:58 pdurbin dotplus: I guess what you're promoting is async. What's also in my head is long form. As opposed to trying to express yourself one line at a time.
19:13 pdurbin Expressing yourself with paragraphs, I guess is all I'm saying. Short paragraphs are fine.
19:13 pdurbin Which is funny to me because it's what Jeff Atwood has been arguing for all along with Discourse vs. chat.
19:13 pdurbin And I've been thinking, "What does he have against chat?"
19:14 pdurbin It really depends on what your goal is.
