about the slack article: 1) ugh, the whole tone is just so annoying. "sexy", "frisky exploration"? no, that doesn't get your point across more effectively - it just makes him sound like the modern/tech equivalent of the tabloid press. |

2) Almost all of the criticism applies equally to IRC and almost any other "IM"-style communication since we had clients that were perptually or at least usually connected to the network. The solution to his "problem" is not to allow Slack (or IM) to be his master, but instead to serve him. All he needs is a little discipline. |

Ok, I'm putting it a little strongly, he needs a little discipline, to manage the expectations of the people that he communicates with and to get them to agree to *not* make important decisions without discussing them more braodly than just a mention in a channel. In other words, he *and his friends/coworkers* need some grownup discipline & judgement. |

basically, he's annoyed with Slack and the way his interlocutors use Slack for exacerbating rather than alleviating his information overload. And while I'm sympathetic to the problem, pointing the finger at Slack is just silly. |
