raucao: it's a good article (not done yet) but this does not resonate with me when it comes to IRC: |

'Some of the digital platforms I used were inherently “real time” (phone, Skype, IRC, Google Hangouts, etc.), where there was a built-in expectation of an immediate, rapid-fire conversation wherein everyone involved was more or less fully-present and participating.' |

same here |

i think it's a bit of a shortcut to throw all these together there. because the topic is a bit more complex than the article's argument |

don't get me wrong, I'm on board with the article in general |

I'm not bothered by this, though: "Will they respond in 5 seconds or 5 hours? Who knows!" I love this about IRC. :) |

initial thought: whenever i read an article about getting rid of email it's usually the same "let's all use some proprietary platform and/or open-source product" kind of thing |
00:59 |
|
raucao |
email is still alive because it's a protocol that anyone can use/implement |

nah. this is more like "everyone should hold office hours" :) |

i think we can all agree it's pretty damn hard to kill it :) |

which is weird and probably wouldn't work. the author doesn't indicate it's even been tried yet |

at http://a16z.com/2016/01/13/nobody-discusses-work-software-outside-of-work-and-then-theres-slack/ the CEO of Slack seemed to say that Slack only works if everyone within a company adopts it |

raucao: yes, you did. achronous was mine. Actually I don't exactly agree; I think "asynchronish" could be another useful neologism, closer to "nearly (a)synchronous", but by "achronous" I meant *deliberately unconcerned* about the delivery/reading schedule - as in "I post a message now and I'm happy for you or anyone else to read it now or a day/month/year/decade from now" |

I will read both those articles and comment back here if they stimulate me to openkot-relevant thoughts. |
