07:07 mr_lou I thought all the Java villians hung out in #java
07:07 mr_lou You saying there are more?
07:07 mr_lou Different fractions of Java villians?
07:08 CatButts I thought the above was a knock on ##java
07:08 CatButts so I replied accordingly

11:51 pdurbin Java Villians isn't a knock on anybody. It a site that was just set up by a guy I met at JavaOne, Ken Fogel. Nice guy. It'll be interesting to see what he does with it.
11:54 mr_lou What's it for?
11:56 aditsu I imagine a villain capturing James Bond and forcing him to code applets in java 1.1
12:09 mr_lou Can I be the villain then?
12:38 pdurbin Here's his tweet about it: https://twitter.com/omniprof/status/933429940833353730
12:39 pdurbin "These are programmers who only use static variables and methods, use single letter identifier names and only use the default package."
12:42 mr_lou So if I join that team, am I then allowed to code that way?
12:57 pdurbin of course!
15:04 aditsu nothing wrong with single letter identifier names (mainly for local variables or arguments)
15:35 mr_lou https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tg33a0wk3Mk
17:27 aditsu mr_lou: This video has been removed for violating YouTube's Terms of Service.
17:27 mr_lou Yes I saw. Someone has a real problem with my project. There's nothing wrong with the video.
17:27 mr_lou You know the type who just can't stand when someone else succeeds?
17:28 mr_lou The video is similar to the one at 8bitmemoirs.com
17:28 mr_lou Nothing that violates anything.
17:28 mr_lou Just a vid of my own project.
17:28 aditsu you should be able to dispute/appeal then
17:29 CatButts lol
17:29 CatButts mr_lou has fans!
17:29 CatButts I have the video loaded
17:29 CatButts the page loaded
17:29 CatButts but not played through
17:30 CatButts enjoy what little can be played, I guess
17:30 CatButts oh, oh
17:30 CatButts no
17:30 CatButts I don't have fancy video retrieval script in FF
17:30 CatButts bummer
17:31 CatButts did you piss someone from ##java, mr_lou?
17:31 CatButts :P
17:32 mr_lou aditsu, Yes, I've done that. But it takes time of course. There ought to be a penalty for those who falsely flagged it though.
17:32 aditsu mr_lou: you can reupload it and make it unlisted
17:32 mr_lou CatButts, Definitely, but this aint related. This is just someone who can't stand that I've managed to complete the project. You know the type who - from the start - tries to talk you out of doing the project.
17:33 mr_lou aditsu, Nah, it has to be public. It to demonstrate what the project is. Will link to it from pouet.net and such.
17:33 mr_lou The video was somewhat the same as the one you can see at 8bitmemoirs.com
17:33 mr_lou Absolutely nothing that violates anything.
17:34 CatButts I am trying to imagine what his drive would be
17:36 CatButts "I hate this dude and seeing him do cool shit makes me boil"
17:36 CatButts "I am trying to do something similar and I can't stand competition"
17:36 * CatButts times out
17:37 mr_lou Some people are just morons.
17:37 mr_lou Not much else to say.
17:37 aditsu maybe "this crap he's doing should not exist"
17:37 CatButts I am trying to imagine the drive
17:37 CatButts at a low level
17:37 CatButts >"I hate this dude and seeing him do cool shit makes me boil"
17:38 CatButts I am all too familiar with this one
17:38 CatButts I am guilty of it
17:38 CatButts programming unrelated
17:39 * CatButts times out
17:39 CatButts whatever
17:40 CatButts to comprehend something at a low, intuitive level and be right about it is a feat
17:41 * CatButts abuses programming analogies for psychology
17:43 CatButts I think I should shut up and pour another glass
17:44 CatButts one day, I will be good at what I desire, bring joys to my friends, and much crushed hopes to my foes
17:50 CatButts hej mr_lou, are you playing the music via fancy replayer for tracked formats or is it pre-rendered?
17:53 mr_lou I use Milkytracker.
17:55 CatButts I mean
17:55 CatButts on the blueray player
17:55 CatButts is it an actual replayer
17:55 CatButts or pre-rendered music
17:58 mr_lou Oh, it's pre-rendered.
17:59 CatButts ah, ok
18:19 mr_lou Ok, let's see how long it stays on Vimeo then. :-)
18:19 mr_lou https://vimeo.com/244872093
18:40 aditsu mr_lou: so.. do you really have an old-computer emulator running in blu-ray? and can play games on it?
18:41 mr_lou aditsu, No. They are just videos.
18:42 aditsu aww
18:42 mr_lou aditsu, I mean, MY project just shows videos of me playing the games and such - BUT someone HAS made emulators of various systems for Blu-ray. Like Nintendo Entertainment System for example.
18:42 mr_lou I COULD have looked into that, but that's not what I wanted.
18:56 df0 joined ##friendlyjava
19:26 mr_lou aditsu, I would be cool though, to have a single disc with an emulator + all the games ever made for that system.
19:26 mr_lou aditsu, It can easily be done. The only problem, that no one has cracked yet, is the audio part. Apparently it's not easy to create a stream with the Blu-ray API's.
19:30 mr_lou I'd like to experiment with that some day.
19:30 mr_lou Among the other million things I'd like to experiment with.
19:35 CatButts what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger
19:35 CatButts (or is still in process of killing you)
19:35 CatButts I'd like to read mindnumbingly crap code, understand its functionality, and output sane code
19:36 CatButts *I'd like to be able to
19:37 CatButts I already have part of this skill from porting between C, Java and AS3
19:38 CatButts just need to work on the deobfuscation part
19:39 CatButts code obfuscated by bad writing and overtly verbose OOP
19:40 * mr_lou luvs obfuscators
19:40 mr_lou They hide my hideous code style. :->
19:41 CatButts so now you have programatic obfuscation congealed together with bad writing :P
19:42 mr_lou Yir! It's the ultimate protection. :-D
19:42 CatButts I hate you
19:43 CatButts I hate OOP
19:43 CatButts I hate Java
19:44 aditsu CatButts: hey, calm down
19:44 CatButts but hey, I need something that happens to be in Java, so here I am ;P
19:48 CatButts gzip is a bunch of headers + deflate algo
19:48 CatButts yes?
19:49 mr_lou You lost us when you said you hate Java.
19:50 CatButts would you rather I butter you and tell you what you want to hear?
19:50 CatButts :P
19:50 mr_lou Yes
19:50 CatButts that's a bummer, then
19:50 aditsu you can hate java, just be nice
19:51 aditsu and not sure about gzip, check some docs
19:52 CatButts I've been told by a friend of older java apps/applets relying on gzip decompression(deflate?), working fine, and breaking in newer java releases because some "magic function is not called" and
19:52 CatButts "increased strictness"
19:52 * CatButts attempts to produce exact quote
19:56 CatButts https://pastebin.com/Q2VVtRfj
19:56 CatButts here we go
19:56 CatButts >I've been unable to track down
19:56 CatButts the problem, but I've heard from other Java developers that if you forget to
19:56 CatButts call some magic method (presumably to flush a buffer or something), the
19:56 CatButts deflater may corrupt data, and do so unpredictably.
19:56 CatButts this bit in particular
19:56 CatButts ...bloody newlines
19:57 CatButts I was wondering if you have any pointers on such behaviour
19:57 mr_lou Java is full of magic methods.
19:57 mr_lou :-D
19:58 CatButts at this rate, I'd port 3rd party deflate code from C to Java
19:58 aditsu there's no magic in flushing, and I suspect it's a case of "It's possible that the Shi-Chan applets aren't using gunzip correctly"
19:58 mr_lou You should port some MIDlet games to Blu-ray Java. :-)
19:59 CatButts I have no interest in BD-J platform
19:59 * CatButts ports MIDlet to Flash
19:59 CatButts hahahahahaha
19:59 mr_lou Yes. That makes a lot more sense.
19:59 mr_lou And Applets!
19:59 CatButts Sun did a good job neutering them
20:00 CatButts same thing I see with J2ME
20:00 mr_lou Yes
20:00 CatButts pay good moneys so we can autograph yer app, so it can run places without harassing user for permissions
20:00 mr_lou I'm tired. Will go to bed. Goodnight.
20:00 CatButts rip
20:00 aditsu g'night
20:01 CatButts oh yeah, I wanted to fetch thing
20:02 CatButts >and I suspect it's a case of "It's possible that the Shi-Chan applets aren't using gunzip correctly"
20:02 CatButts in relation to this
20:03 CatButts >and
20:03 CatButts since the Shi applets use very weak typing with their streams and do stupid
20:03 CatButts bit twiddling, something gets out of alignment and Java complains
20:04 CatButts there we go
