Time S Nick Message
01:12 kzisme pdurbin: Start my new job tomorrow!
01:13 kzisme I much prefer stack exchange - last I looked into discourse it didn't seem as "busy"
01:14 pdurbin kzisme: congrats!
01:18 kzisme pdurbin: Fully remote :) haven't received my machine yet though - I'm _really_ excited
01:21 pdurbin Cool. What languages will you be using?
01:23 kzisme pdurbin: C# and some web stuff as far as I know now - it's pretty much the same sort of work as before, remote, working on an actual team, and working on client and internal projects
01:24 pdurbin Ah, I didn't realize you were remote before.
01:25 kzisme Nope I wasn't!
01:25 kzisme I (wish) it was
01:25 kzisme I asked many times - the 55 minute commute made me fairly mad, and then moving us back to the old location for no reason
01:26 kzisme 7 day work work schedule, lack of structure, and a list of other things is why I resigned
02:02 pdurbin Well, no job is forever. One time I left a job because they wanted to make me the boss. :)
02:05 kzisme pdurbin: It felt particularly odd leaving since I was the last full time programmer - there were only contractors left
02:15 pdurbin Gotcha.
02:16 pdurbin kzisme: so you like how "busy" Stack Exchange looks compared to Discourse? It's meant to be dense. Stack Overflow was designed for developers. I guess Discourse is designed for people who want to talk about anything (bikes, cooking, etc.).
02:20 kzisme pdurbin: Busy as in used by more people - after reading about the creators of SE - I found that they were working on discourse.  I looked around and it didn't seem as popular for whatever reason.
02:21 pdurbin Oh. Well, every developer knows about Stack Overflow. Discourse is an alternative to phpBB or whatever old-school forum software.
02:22 pdurbin Because Discourse is open source, you have full control over your data, which is what my post above was about.
02:27 kzisme Gotcha - I just thought you meant why one vs the other

23:18 aditsu ugh, firefox has giant border widths in form fields for some reason.. but if I set the border width, the select fields become fugly (in chromium too)
