pdurbin: how does that solve the problem? :D |
00:08 |
|
pdurbin |
maybe it just moves the problem :) |
00:08 |
|
pdurbin |
prologic: the problem you're trying to solve is that one of your IRC loggers might be down, right? |
00:11 |
|
prologic |
yeah |
00:11 |
|
prologic |
I'd love to have the logs replicated with some level of redundancy |
00:11 |
|
prologic |
without changing too much of the code ofc :D |
00:13 |
|
prologic |
I'm even considering raft :D |
00:14 |
|
prologic |
According to https://github.com/flowerhack/raft/blob/master/raft/server.py the protocol itself doesn't seem all that complicated |
00:35 |
|
pdurbin |
Neat. |
00:35 |
|
pdurbin |
Yeah, I don't have expectations of making philbot redundant any time soon. If it's down, it's down. |
00:37 |
|
pdurbin |
Distributed systems are hard. |
00:37 |
|
prologic |
well not that hard :D |
00:38 |
|
prologic |
but seriously I am trying to implement raft in circuits |
00:40 |
|
pdurbin |
cool |
00:45 |
|
prologic |
maybe |
00:46 |
|
prologic |
otherwise I'm just reinventing the wheel |
00:46 |
|
prologic |
or relying on some other system like a replicated mysql master<->slave or some other kind of distributed data system |
00:54 |
|
pdurbin |
I guess I'm just pretty comfortable with significant downtime for my hobby projects. :) |
00:56 |
|
prologic |
well fortunately irclogger_do (online now) doesn't suffer much from downtime really |
00:56 |
|
prologic |
it more suffers from my bad sysadmin skillz :P |
00:57 |
|
prologic |
the DO Droplet today ran out of disk space hahaha |
00:58 |
|
prologic |
so I'm working on improving this firstly by migrating to new DO Droplets with block storage volume for data separate from the root disk that has docker installed on it and that can make things not work if you have leaky parts of your system :D |
01:03 |
|
pdurbin |
Ah, so it's fresh on your mind. |
01:13 |
|
prologic |
indeed |

dotplus |
pdurbin: if you want, of the existing nodes, I should be linked to git, vagrant, bash. Consider adding nodes: testing, CI/CD? |
13:56 |
|
dotplus |
oh and docker (should that be "containers"?) |
14:01 |
|
pdurbin |
probably |

pdurbin: docker, perl, git, bash, python, php, java |

if you are going on interests from that list: docker, git, and I will always have a special place of love (and hate) for perl |

(add javascript to both of those lists - just saw it on your list) |

|
pdurbin |
thanks |
