I saw that unpublishing story. To me, it seemed like an overreaction. |

It would have been better to provide a deprecation path for that one module that alerted people of a name change months down the road. |

I've had 0 contact with using node/npm as a dev and have only dealt with providing it (deploying/automating the deploy of a node-thing), but it looks at first glance like npm failed to learn anything from the extensive history of packaging. Fortunately there are now some attempts to cope: nodebrew, nodeenv and nodenv (yes, those latter 2 are different) so the most interesting technical point in that story is a reference in a comment to ... |

perhaps I have a more crimsonfu perspective than sourcefu. |

I wonder (idly, without investigating) how/whether they're dealing with the problems of metadata and search/discoverability, but it certainly appears that could be valuable (assuming that ipfs gets/maintains enough interest to be reliable/available in the medium/long/verylong terms) |

this is telling: Laurie Voss on Twitter: "Un-un-publishing is an unprecedented action that we're taking given the severity and widespread nature of breakage, and isn't done lightly." - https://twitter.com/seldo/status/712414588281552900 |
