14:12 pdurbin semiosis sivoais dotplus are any of you using Swift already?
14:30 sivoais I have not
14:34 pdurbin I'll need to refresh myself on its features. I'm much more interested now that it's open source.
14:36 sivoais I know it lets you define operators like this <https://github.com/kasei/SwiftRegex>
15:54 pdurbin cool
17:50 pdurbin this is why I switched to Ubuntu. So I can easily try out stuff like this: https://krita.org/item/krita-2-9-animation-edition-beta-released/
17:51 pdurbin via I tested today #krita animation branch for first time, and I fell in love wit... - https://plus.google.com/+DavidRevoy/posts/FXihXUn9X1w
17:51 pdurbin (cute cat cartoon there)
17:52 pdurbin Krita animation Edition - Early Tutorial - YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqYFsupj7qI via http://timotheegiet.com/blog/anim/krita-2-9-animation-edition-beta.html
17:52 sivoais neat! I would like to make short animations to accompany my research so that it is easier to explain and visualise
17:54 pdurbin sivoais: in the Google+ post you'll see me mention Disney Animation Studio (DAS) on the Amiga: http://www.retroist.com/2013/03/11/remember-disney-animation-studio-software/
17:56 pdurbin Amiga - Disney Animation Studio (1990) - YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSeYivHZpB8
17:56 pdurbin my brother and I spend hours on DAS as kids
18:02 sivoais pdurbin: I actually had that! But I was too young to understand how to use it. I was a late bloomer. :-P
18:03 sivoais except I was on DOS / Win95
18:10 pdurbin spent*
18:10 pdurbin ok, this thing is awesome. now to sick my kids on it (they already watched that tutorial video)
18:11 pdurbin sivoais: my brother and I were severely limited by RAM, I think. In practice we could only have maybe 50 frames? I forget. He's an illustrator now. He's amazing. I think this laptop has enough RAM. :)
18:12 pdurbin my brother: http://brycedurbin.com
18:19 sivoais cool. his style seems like the kind you'd see in glossy news magazines
18:20 sivoais very minimal
18:29 pdurbin yeah
18:29 pdurbin might be tough to get my laptop back from my 9 year old :)
18:31 pdurbin Krita is way more complicated than TuxPaint but she's already getting the hang of it.
22:24 pdurbin also, I'm slightly bummed that you can't simply export an animated gif from this beta of Krita with animation despite what's hinted at here: https://krita.org/item/the-votes-are-in-2/
22:25 pdurbin but there's a work around. you just click "File" -> "Export animation" and under the "Export sequence" dialog you pick something reasonable like PNG.
22:26 pdurbin then you run something like this to create an animated gif using imagemagick: convert -delay 3 -loop 0 *.png out.gif
22:26 pdurbin here's the smiley face my daughter drew: http://i.imgur.com/6GJyEH7.gif
22:30 pdurbin oh, duh. those votes are for stretch goals
