01:29 pdurbin listening to http://www.talkpythontome.com/episodes/show/15/python-at-spotify-psf-and-pyladies and http://newcoder.io was mentioned. sounds interesting
08:51 prologic been doing kernel hacking last couple of nights
08:52 prologic https://github.com/prologic/hello-kernel
10:49 pdurbin ah, you're following http://arjunsreedharan.org/post/82710718100/kernel-101-lets-write-a-kernel ... neat
10:50 prologic ahh well no not really
10:50 prologic initially yes (a bit)
10:50 prologic but I've quiet surpassed his nice little blog psot now
10:50 pdurbin ah
10:50 prologic now starting to think about http://wiki.osdev.org/Calling_Global_Constructors
10:50 pdurbin did you learn anything?
10:50 prologic and http://wiki.osdev.org/Meaty_Skeleton
10:51 prologic and possibly actually building a more or less POSIX.1 compliant kernel and OS with some userland tools
10:51 prologic oh I've leanred heaps so far :)
10:51 prologic some relearned though
10:51 prologic Iv'e done this whole toy boot loader / kernel thing before when I was younger
10:51 prologic but taking a renewreed interest recently I guess
11:12 pdurbin cool
18:15 aditsu joined #sourcefu
20:21 sivoais prologic: "leanred heaps so far" ... a pun? ;-)
20:49 prologic no; no pun :)
21:05 pdurbin ah meaty skeleton != bare bones. cute
23:06 pdurbin sivoais: rust has traits too: https://doc.rust-lang.org/book/traits.html
23:06 pdurbin hearing about it here: 23: Why Did They Call it Rust?! | The Bike Shed - http://bikeshed.fm/23
23:08 sivoais nice!
23:24 sivoais i've been reading some of the Rust work recently. It's a nice langauge. I'm kinda conservative when it comes to native code. I like my C and want to see how far I can push that.
23:25 sivoais It was my first real language after Logo and BASIC :-P Has a special place for me :-D
23:29 sivoais C's advantage is portability, but I have to admit that safety and expressiveness are places it really does poorly
23:36 pdurbin Rust sounds a lot safer.
23:37 pdurbin sivoais: you'd probably like this episode
23:38 pdurbin heh. and they talk about a "weirdness budget" at around 15:50
23:48 sivoais heh, that's a good rule of thumb. I like it.
