semiosis: ever use visualvm? http://irclog.greptilian.com/friendlyjava/2015-05-05#i_112391 |
17:59 |
|
semiosis |
yeah, sure |
17:59 |
|
semiosis |
great diagnositc/profiling tool |
18:00 |
|
pdurbin |
maybe you can give aditsu a hand |
18:01 |
|
semiosis |
what's the problem? |
18:01 |
|
semiosis |
all i see here is the question what profiling tools do you use. well, everyone uses visualvm :) |
18:02 |
|
semiosis |
though there are certainly more sophisticated tools |
18:18 |
|
pdurbin |
aditsu: can you sum up the problem? |
18:19 |
|
aditsu |
I already summed it up at https://netbeans.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=252250 (as can be seen in the logs) |

semiosis: I've only used visualvm from within netbeans but aditsu is trying to attach to an external/standalone application |
18:22 |
|
aditsu |
actually, right now I'm profiling it as a netbeans project |
18:23 |
|
semiosis |
external/standalone app running on the same host as visualvm? or remote? |
18:24 |
|
aditsu |
same host, but I'm not attaching to external app anymore |
18:25 |
|
aditsu |
also, I'm not running visualvm :p |
18:26 |
|
aditsu |
but netbeans |
18:33 |
|
semiosis |
so, the problem is that you can't get a snapshot of an app? |
18:34 |
|
aditsu |
right... and I *just* found a solution now |
18:34 |
|
aditsu |
I modified the -J-Xss option in netbeans.conf, and now I can get a snapshot :) |

aditsu: try downloading visualvm standalone. try different versions, i've had some things work better on the previous release than current. also make sure you're running visualvm with the same type & version of JVM as the app you want to profile, or newer from the same line |
18:34 |
|
semiosis |
oh great |
18:34 |
|
semiosis |
well then problem solved? |
18:34 |
|
aditsu |
this problem, yeah |
18:38 |
|
pdurbin |
oh good |
