17:47 pdurbin atz: welcome!
17:47 atz greets
17:48 pdurbin if you worked on evergreen does that mean you're a perl hacker?
17:48 atz yeah, primarily perl.  also groovy now for current gig
17:49 atz groovy repairs most of the things I hate about java
17:49 pdurbin java gets a lot of hate
17:49 pdurbin but the day job app is java and it's fine, actually
17:50 pdurbin atz: have you used http://www.gradle.org ?
17:50 atz it's interesting how things have flipped.  back when we were in school, java was considered a slow language.  now it is considered performant.
17:51 pdurbin definitely
17:51 atz yeah, gradle is cool.
17:51 * pdurbin needs to make that java advocacy page ... or at least java-no-so-bad page
17:55 atz automation and dependency mgmt is a serious point of failure for a lot of otherwise decent platforms (yeah, I'm looking at you, Ruby/RVM/rubygems).  gradle/grapes makes it pretty easy for groovy.
17:56 pdurbin crimsonfubot: lucky gradle grapes java
17:56 crimsonfubot pdurbin: http://linkedjava.blogspot.com/2011/07/gradle-maven-and-grapes-working.html
18:00 pdurbin we're thinking of moving from ant to maven
18:03 atz are you running evergreen anywhere?
18:04 atz or just curious
18:04 atz ?
18:05 pdurbin nope
18:05 pdurbin just found it because it uses faceting
18:05 pdurbin which I'm trying to add to our app: http://irclog.iq.harvard.edu/dvn/2013-03-26
18:05 pdurbin I'm looking up what ILS stands for
18:06 pdurbin integrated library system
18:06 atz hah... "Integrated Library System"
18:06 atz yeah... "Card Catalog of the Future"
18:07 atz yeah, EG's is all homegrown... you probably just want to use faceting in a newer version of SOLR
18:07 pdurbin or elastic search
18:08 atz EG is also very postgres-centric, if that matters for your app
18:09 pdurbin out app is built on postgres but I don't plan to use it for faceting. I upgraded Lucene to a version that supports it (3.5)
18:11 pdurbin our*
18:16 atz sounds like we'll be in the same ecosystems for a while!  speaking of ecosystem, i need to go eat something...
18:16 pdurbin :)
18:17 pdurbin "_ allows you to write Ruby script by using only _." -- https://github.com/mame/_
18:20 atz lol... what is that?  absurdist ruby poetry?
