wait, isn't slack a walled garden where you're subject to their will? I'm thinking especially in the areas of account policing/mgmt, history and channel mgmt? never mind client support/interop. |

then as far as I'm concerned, public channels sounds terrible because it's not going to alleviate the badness of slack, but it's likely to extend the reach. |

there are problems with freenode/irc of course, but I'm really glad that it's the default choice for synchronous and achronous short comms in most foss communities |

(achronous communication is my neologism for "uncertain timeliness, might or might not be synchronous/asynchronous, doesn't care or address it", not very happy with the neologism, but it's better than nothing) |
