Epicanis: we are ready. any more news? |
02:31 |
|
Epicanis |
I've not heard anything so far. |
02:32 |
|
Epicanis |
I read it was being relocated to Millinocket, Maine. |
02:32 |
|
pdurbin |
Epicanis: last time you said Bangor |
02:33 |
|
Epicanis |
I like Millinocket better. :-) |
02:33 |
|
pdurbin |
is it even farther away? |
02:33 |
|
Epicanis |
Only by about an hour or so... |
02:34 |
|
Epicanis |
(Actually, if anyone was seriously willing to consider that far North, Orono, ME would probably be better. It's essentially the North end of Bangor, where University of Maine's campus is.) |

307 miles from the 2012 location! |
02:36 |
|
Epicanis |
Yeah, just a few hours, no problem right? :-) |
02:36 |
|
Epicanis |
(Being in a location where parking was actually possible would be helpful this time around, but "one hour from the Canadian border" MIGHT be a little excessively far :-) ) |
02:37 |
|
Epicanis |
(Portland, ME might be okay - that's not even really Maine, that's really North Massachussets...) |
02:38 |

Epicanis: what about the folks in CT? |
02:38 |
|
Epicanis |
Were there a lot of nutmeggers up at the last NELF? |
02:39 |
|
pdurbin |
I have no idea |
02:39 |
|
pdurbin |
Epicanis: I expect you're right... that parking would be possible |

Pokey had mentioned Portsmouth, NH as another possibility - that's actually not too far (by my standards) from last year's event, but would be a lot easier to get to by car (and park in)... |
02:41 |
|

harder for me to bike to :) |

I was seriously thinking it'd be useful (assuming we can actually get things rolling early enough) to have an official "need a ride/need a room" forum going so people could coordinate helping people get to the event. |

Epicanis: could probably use the hotels list for that: http://northeastlinuxfest.org/mailman/listinfo |

Not sure how effective that is given the one single test message that was its only traffic last time (I suspect a more public forum might draw more attention than a traditional mailing list.) |
02:47 |
|
pdurbin |
Epicanis: what's your favorite forum software? |
02:48 |
|
Epicanis |
I'm not sure, actually - the closest I've gotten to really "using" forum software (besides an occasional post here and there) is Wordpress, which doesn't really count. |

Looking at the Speakers list it looks like that one got a bit more traffic, so maybe it's more a problem of awareness or something. |

Epicanis: I'd be curious to hear what you think of this: http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2013/02/civilized-discourse-construction-kit.html |
02:53 |
|
Epicanis |
Hmmm, might be worth a look. |

I'm also wondering if something could be done with pump.io, but pump.io is vague enough I'm still not entirely sure what ought to be doable with it. |

(Perversely, I keep wanting to play with Citadel, which is really a comparatively modern and updated version of a classic BBS system...) |
11:13 |
|
pdurbin |
huh. http://www.citadel.org even says "bulletin boards (forums)" |
11:14 |
|
pdurbin |
at least they own it :) |

hmm, it's been 5 months already since I set up my pump.io account: https://microca.st/pdurbin |
