16:10 acuzio hey Naros
16:10 Naros sup
16:12 acuzio Our man has been missing in action
16:13 Naros who, Quest?
16:13 acuzio Ja
16:13 Naros Yah, perhaps on vacation due to holidays.  I'm not so versed in various culture's traditions when it comes to this time of year.
16:14 acuzio naah - no hols there
16:14 Naros Ah; I know I'm typically off around 2-3 weeks this time of year easily.
16:14 acuzio Same here - i am off from 23rd
16:14 acuzio And its pretty slow anyway
16:15 Naros Yah I'm bailing around the 15th and wont be back til around the 10th :P
16:15 acuzio You are in ?
16:15 Naros I'm in the states.
16:16 replyjava joined ##javaee
16:16 Naros But I've been at my job for quite a while.  Have almost 5 weeks of vacation a year now :P
16:16 acuzio Impressive
16:17 acuzio I have to take 2 weeks but i am a contractor - so it works differently
16:18 Naros yah, i negotiated when i got hired for more vacation time plus being a FT employee, has it's perks :)
16:19 acuzio Yeah , i am surprised they are firms in the States that do 5 weeks - i have never heard of em - mind you my experience is limited to Fin Orgs
16:21 Naros hehe, i have a few friends at IBM who have almost 8 weeks of vacation/year.
16:21 acuzio Ah consulting
16:21 Naros but they've been there for like 30 years or something
16:21 Naros Nope, perm employees
16:22 Naros They are account managers, or at least were last time I talked with them
16:22 Naros been a while since we broke off our partnership with them back in 04
16:22 acuzio I mean IBM makes its money via Consulting Services and Service Managers, Business Rep, SDM , et all have a cushty enough role -
16:22 Naros Yep
16:23 acuzio After a while - these folks are fossils but they cant be moved cause the business relationships formed are via these guys
16:24 Naros yep and those relationships are cornerstone to their growth
16:25 acuzio Growth or recurring revenue - mostly its the latter
16:27 acuzio I know guys who have been with the same client for ~ 12 years or so  - they know more about the client than the client themselves ., its incredible the leeway these guys have
16:28 acuzio They dont learn or contribute anything material but they know how the Client Organisation works - Its a huge huge advantage .. for them
16:28 Naros hehe, yah that's what i meant.
16:28 acuzio For the rest its a net loss
16:29 Naros I remember back in the day, we had some issue with our hosting with them.  Our account rep got it and she literally battled their internal teams for days before they realized their mistake.  We hardly had to do anything but just continue working and moving forward.
16:30 Naros She'd catch mistakes made, have them fixed and inform us after-the-fact so we at least were in know but never had to pickup the phone.
16:31 Naros All because she knew what our business needs were and how things ran and needed to be conducted as you said.
16:33 acuzio I have had bad experience with all of these types - mainly cause i find them to be bottle necks - they do not delegate, they hoard information ; thats their currency

20:57 sfisque yay, application processed.   latticeware.com OID == 1.3.6.1.4.1.42910
21:10 pdurbin +1
21:27 whartung \o/
21:28 whartung sfisque: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7aIf1YnbbU
21:38 sfisque lol whartung!
21:38 whartung :)
21:39 sfisque things are going to start happening to me… NOW!!
21:43 whartung Just it time!
21:43 whartung when's your last day?
21:44 sfisque 20th.  was going to be the 3rd, but got a stay of execution because "people freaked out"
21:44 whartung yea
21:44 sfisque i'm hoping i get another small extension to hold over past the holiday.  january would be a better time to look for a job than right now
21:44 whartung you gonna hang out here after that or are you off surfing or whatever it is you do with free time.
21:45 semiosis https://www.latticeware.com/ invalid cert?
21:45 semiosis self signed?
21:45 sfisque lolz.  very cold here.  probably spend time with the family and just (self signed cert, semi)
21:45 sfisque hang low while inteviewing
21:45 sfisque well not self signed.  signed by CACert.org
21:46 sfisque but pretty much equivalent since cacert isnt a "trusted" entity
21:46 sfisque they are "working" on getting "trusted" status with browsers
21:46 semiosis uh huh
21:47 semiosis meanwhile anyone can buy an ssl cert for $10 or less
21:47 sfisque from whom?  when i priced around it was spendy
21:47 semiosis https://www.namecheap.com/ssl-certificates.aspx
21:47 semiosis for one
21:48 sfisque are they "trusted" as far as browsers are concerned?
21:48 semiosis yes
21:49 sfisque hrm, comodo, 8/year
21:50 * sfisque will investigate further
21:50 semiosis i'm sure there's some reason digicert etc cost >10x that, but haven't really looked into it
21:51 sfisque i would guess has to do with level of security around their infrastructure.  cacert failed on that.  not enough checks in place to prevent cert fraud
21:52 whartung but somehow name cheap can do it for less...
21:53 semiosis as we've seen recently, doesnt matter how hard it is to forge a cert from your favorite CA, what matters is how easy it is to forge a cert from any of the 100s of other CAs
21:53 sfisque it looks like they just broker.  probably economy of scale
21:54 sfisque from comodo directly, 65 / year
21:54 sfisque they probably have an SLA (sell this much, we give you X discount)
21:55 sfisque anywho, yeah, i will eventually need to get a commercial grade cert, for no other reason than to get rid of the "browser warning"
21:56 sfisque i wonder if netsol offers discounted certs.  they're my domain registrar
21:56 * sfisque starts surfing netsol site
21:58 sfisque hrm 50/year with netsol
21:58 sfisque :-.
21:58 sfisque :-/
21:59 sfisque been a customer there for over a decade.  will have to call them and see if they can make a better deal for a long time customer
22:00 sfisque anyway, afk for a bit.  code strong!
22:00 semiosis and if that doesnt work, tell them what namecheap is offering lol
22:21 sfisque rofl
