22:19 neato hey
22:37 aditsu hola
22:38 neato Hey, I'm a bit intimidated by #Java, so I'll ask here first
22:38 aditsu welcome :)
22:38 neato In how many coding interviews have you had to live code?
22:39 neato Heck.. I'll just ask there,,
22:39 aditsu I haven't had that many interviews, but I had to code in a few of them
22:40 neato Like, pseudo or actually?
22:41 neato I've only had one Java programmer interview and there wasn't any.. so, I was just wondering how common it is.
22:41 neato If it's in an IDE with shortcuts or pseudo, that should be fine, I guess..
22:41 aditsu I've had both.. usually it was actual code, but not always running to test it
22:42 neato What was the difficulty level?
22:42 neato Do you remember the sort of question?
22:42 aditsu I had some interviews where I had to write code in a plain text editor, no IDE
22:44 aditsu it really depends on the company.. usually algorithmic questions
22:44 aditsu e.g. one started by asking me to write a binary search
22:46 aditsu pdurbin: what about you?
22:47 neato Ok.. as long as it isn't too involved, or obscure, I should be fine
22:48 aditsu also I would say that if the interview doesn't involve any code, chances are they hired some people who can't code
22:48 aditsu have you heard of the fizz buzz test? :p
22:49 neato Nah.. I have to go for the time being - thanks though :)
22:49 aditsu https://blog.codinghorror.com/why-cant-programmers-program/ - read it sometime :)
22:54 pdurbin aditsu: so, I'm in my first programming job. The interview wasn't too bad because they already knew me. I was asked how I'd code up an elevator and I waved my hands a lot and got the job. That was 6 years ago.
22:56 aditsu wow, first programming job
22:58 aditsu also, I didn't know you were a jedi :p
22:59 pdurbin heh
22:59 pdurbin I know, first programming job.
22:59 pdurbin I did sysadmin stuff for 15 years before that.
