Well yes, but I want Java |
03:36 |
|
mr_lou |
This is the dumbest ddecision ever. Java will die. |
03:41 |
|
nanoz |
java wont die |
03:41 |
|
nanoz |
people will quit the language |

I saw that crap too... but apparently they were already requiring licenses for commercial use? with some kind of one-time payment |

Never heard of that aditsu |

I doubt anyone using Java for commercial stuff, like e.g. games, has ever payed anything. |

|
mr_lou |
If I have to pay ANYthing to use Java for ANYthing, then I won't be using Java anymore. Simple as that. And that's very sad. |
08:01 |
|
mr_lou |
How can they not know that this will kill Java? :-/ |
08:01 |
|
aditsu |
it's not really java itself, but oracle's JRE/JDK |
08:02 |
|
mr_lou |
How do you differ those? |
08:02 |
|
aditsu |
java is a language, JRE is the implementation, and there are alternative ones, such as OpenJDK |
08:04 |
|
mr_lou |
Is there also OpenJRE? |
08:04 |
|
aditsu |
well, any JDK includes a JRE, there's not a separate project for that |
08:05 |
|
mr_lou |
Java will definitely lose popularity. :-( |
08:05 |
|
mr_lou |
They're crazy. |
08:06 |
|
aditsu |
well, I hate this news too, but I'm not sure how much java will lose popularity... it was already quite unpopular (lots of people seem to enjoy bashing it in many contexts), and people who are fine with it will probably continue to use it |
08:07 |
|
mr_lou |
Yea, lots of people bash it. But that stats don't lie. |

I think java is most successful in server environments, and in modified forms in Android and various devices |
08:09 |
|
mr_lou |
I understand the server part. Not the Android part. Ever tried dev'ing for Android? It's a mess. |
08:10 |
|
aditsu |
very little, but Android is super-popular |
08:10 |
|
aditsu |
and a great success as a platform |
08:10 |
|
mr_lou |
Can't deny that no. |
08:12 |
|
mr_lou |
I was rather thrilled about Android when I first heard about it. Even bought the very first Android phone from abroad because it wasn't available in my country. |
08:12 |
|
mr_lou |
But I've never managed to fulfill my expectations. |
08:12 |
|
mr_lou |
I don't understand why it's so popular. |
08:14 |
|
aditsu |
because people like their smartphones and Android is much better (and cheaper) than the crapple stuff |
08:14 |
|
mr_lou |
I like my old dumbphone. :-> |
08:14 |
|
mr_lou |
Yes, people like their smartphones. |
08:15 |
|
mr_lou |
They like paying for a new one every year or 2. |

Gotta record some video-tutorials |

But I'm lazy. |
