aditsu |
hey how's it going everybody? |
19:18 |
|
pdurbin |
busy writing java |
19:19 |
|
aditsu |
:) |
19:19 |
|
* mr_lou |
made a break-through with his project yesterday, so going great here too |
19:20 |
|
aditsu |
cool, the blue ray stuff? |
19:20 |
|
mr_lou |
...when I say "too", it's because I interpret "busy writing java" as great. |
19:20 |
|
mr_lou |
Yea, the blu-ray thingy. |
19:21 |
|
aditsu |
so what does it do? |
19:21 |
|
mr_lou |
I bought a Dune HD Smart D1 device, which can play blu-ray from harddisk or USB. And it didn't play back my project correctly, which means it's a great test-device. I managed to fix that. |
19:21 |
|
mr_lou |
It's a discmag-like thing. |
19:21 |
|
mr_lou |
Meant for people to sit in the couch in the living room while reading. ;-) |
19:22 |
|
mr_lou |
Well.... I've also made a MIDP version, so.... you can read it on your (old) phone too. |
19:23 |
|
mr_lou |
Next I was thinking of making a web version. Possibly a SmartTV App version. |
19:23 |
|
mr_lou |
This is all "engine" talk of course. The content isn't done yet. |
19:23 |
|
mr_lou |
Only some of it. |
19:25 |
|
aditsu |
so you want to use a blu-ray player to read magazines? |
19:25 |
|
mr_lou |
Well.... not any magazine... not magazines as such. It's a discmag, as in the old days, on the Amstrad CPC and Amiga. Discmags has a special kind of atmosphere and feeling to them. |
19:26 |
|
aditsu |
I don't know anything about that :p |
19:26 |
|
mr_lou |
Cosy colours, ambient relaxing background music. |
19:26 |
|
mr_lou |
And retro-like. |
19:29 |
|
mr_lou |
aditsu, Amiga diskmag example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8GdHNGyVJs |
19:30 |
|
mr_lou |
Primary school pretty much ruined my desire to read anything - except diskmags / discmags. |
19:30 |
|
mr_lou |
And what about you aditsu? How are you doing? :-) |
19:33 |
|
aditsu |
ok, working in python, and not finding a lot of spare time... I plan to try libcontinuations for green threads in java |
19:33 |
|
aditsu |
also have a couple of open source projects I need to update |
19:35 |
|
aditsu |
I have a coworker who keeps giving me mathematical puzzles :p (such as the 5*5 one) |
19:37 |
|
mr_lou |
Never tried python. |
19:38 |
|
mr_lou |
Not really interested in trying python either. |
19:38 |
|
mr_lou |
Interesting in finding a job that involves java coding, preferably embedded java. |
19:39 |
|
aditsu |
what about android? |
19:39 |
|
mr_lou |
I tried android... don't like it. |
19:39 |
|
mr_lou |
I made this: www.piratediamonds.com |
19:40 |
|
mr_lou |
A lot of silly design decisions in android in my opinion. |
19:40 |
|
mr_lou |
And all the firmware updates mean that your stuff probably won't work tomorrow. |
19:40 |
|
mr_lou |
Might as well just do web development then. |
19:40 |
|
aditsu |
cool |
19:43 |
|
aditsu |
python is a nice language, but too dynamic to become my favorite |
19:44 |
|
mr_lou |
I'm too lazy to learn multiple languages. |
19:44 |
|
mr_lou |
I just wanna pick one, and stick with it. |
19:44 |
|
mr_lou |
And that language ended up being Java. |
19:45 |
|
mr_lou |
Lucky for me, that means I can do cellphone stuff and blu-ray stuff. Would have been nice if there were tons of cheap Java servers like there are PHP servers available. Then I'd also have done all my web stuff with Java. |
19:45 |
|
aditsu |
hehe, but other languages come with many interesting concepts |
19:45 |
|
aditsu |
I do my web stuff in java, using cheap vps |
19:46 |
|
mr_lou |
Not cheap compared to what's available for PHP. |
19:46 |
|
mr_lou |
Sadly I don't see myself ever going with Java for web. :-( |
19:46 |
|
mr_lou |
Instead, it'll be Node.js |
19:47 |
|
aditsu |
I don't see myself ever going with node.js |
19:47 |
|
mr_lou |
:-> |
19:48 |
|
mr_lou |
I like Node.js because of my "too-lazy-to-use-multiple-languages" gene. |
19:48 |
|
mr_lou |
Then I can ditch PHP. |
19:48 |
|
mr_lou |
Well.... have no experience with Node.js yet, so I can't say I like it yet. But I like the idea of it. |
19:48 |
|
aditsu |
I used to code in asp using javascript |
19:49 |
|
mr_lou |
Ah, JScript yes. |
19:49 |
|
mr_lou |
Me too. |
19:49 |
|
mr_lou |
Although I mostly used VB |
19:49 |
|
mr_lou |
...because of my past with Amstrad CPC. |
19:49 |
|
mr_lou |
BASIC 1.0 :-> |
19:49 |
|
mr_lou |
I used my Amstrad CPC manual to look up keywords and functions to use in ASP. |
19:52 |
|
mr_lou |
Node.js is not the same as JScript in ASP. ;-) |
19:54 |
|
mr_lou |
Well, I'm tired. So I'm gonna go to bed and watch some TV. |
19:54 |
|
mr_lou |
See ya! :-) |
19:58 |
|
aditsu |
if you read this later, I know it's not, and see you :) |
